About Heather

Heather Hutchison is an Amazon Best-selling author, content creator, advocate, speaker and award-winning singer/songwriter.

Blind since birth and having faced mental health struggles from a young age, Heather is passionate about educating and connecting with people on disability and mental health through her music, writing and advocacy. She is a frequent guest at conferences, on national television and radio programs and renowned podcasts across the globe, singing and speaking to share her message of hope.

Told with both heart-wrenching honesty and sharp whit, Heather’s memoir, Holding On by Letting Go chronicles her life as a blind person in Canada and Latin America, her hospitalization for psychiatric care in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the refuge she has always found in music. It is a gripping story of courage, resilience, hope, and surrendering for a second chance at life.

Heather’s music explores similar themes. Her album, If I Could, was written in part as a soundtrack to the book. Though both her music and her writing stand firmly on their own, Heather sings with the conviction of someone who has lived these stories, and her crystal clear voice commands attention from the very first note. Having released four albums and numerous singles to critical acclaim, from her pop anthems to stripped down piano ballads, Heather’s songs are a solid testament to the power of music to heal and transform.

In her advocacy work, heather has appeared alongside high-profile psychologists,  clinical counsellors and fellow disability and mental health advocates. Using humour, vulnerability and striking honesty, she crafts relatable messages that educate and inspire, whether she is speaking at an event, or to her hundreds of thousands of active and engaged social media followers.

An avid traveller, Heather has spent time living and teaching in Latin America. She currently lives on the west coast of Canada with her partner Jordan and their cat Maya. When she isn’t playing music, writing or travelling, she can often be found at the beach, or curled up with a good book and a chai latte.

Heather’s work empowers people from all walks of life to overcome, to hope, and to find human connection in our similarities while celebrating our differences.
